Corey Misagi

Pro±Con 2020 Cosplay Guest

My background and love of musical theater was a starting point for my interest in cosplay and dance. I came across the song Honey sung by Sakine Meiko and Ievan Polkka by Hatsune Miku early in high school which sparked my interest in Vocaloid and began my journey into cosplay.
I first did a home-made boy version of Hatsune Miku known as Mikuo, then purchased my first professionally made cosplay of Kagamine Len and soon to follow a professionally made Hatsune Mikuo as well. I journeyed though getting Vocaloid cosplays, to UTAU cosplays including getting some custom ordered that were not available anywhere. At this time I created my UTAU character Corey Misagi who I
developed and created his own voicebank for. As I am a junior I wanted my own identity and decided to adopt the name of my original character as my cosplay persona.
Around age 19 is where I then began my journey into lolita and Victorian Era. Upon moving out of my parent’s house around 21 I was unable to purchase as many new cosplays or dresses as before due to new financial changes and learning to manage bills and expenses. Since I hold high standards of what I’ll purchase I’ve learned to budget and take opportunities to expand and build the collection I have today.
My signature cosplays have included my popular UTAU cosplays such as Namine Ritsu and Momone Momo, Vocaloid cosplays such as Kagamine Len and Megurine Luka, and especially my Princess Daisy cosplay. My newest addition to my array of characters has been my drag persona, Victoria Belle. She started out as a baby drag queen at a local bar that I performed at in a little black and blue lolita dress with hardly any makeup and has evolved into a fully realized character of a mid to late 1800’s middle class girl who embodies kindness and aspires to be an inspiration.
I’m not a cosplayer who follow trends and wears the coolest or newest character’s cosplay but instead stay true to what I love regardless of its popularity or age. Cosplay is fun and cosplay is free to explore and indulge in no matter who you are or what you like. For me, Vocaloid was the perfect starting point for me to mix my love of costuming and dance with the freedom to mix and match songs
and dances with characters. As my favorite quote from Victoria Belle, Stay true, Love you and love what you do.
